Biography
Self-taught, Pascal Merlin has dabbled in all the techniques (pencils, dry pastels, oil, watercolor, etc.) before stopping at acrylic paint which suits him quite well. He worked a lot on landscapes and portraits.
For two to three years, he tackled abstract painting by working with acrylic in a mixed technique with the addition of material. This technique allowed him to become better acquainted with colors and the use of space. During this period, he focused on the feeling and emotions his work provided during his exhibitions. From his paintings, he wanted to bring out light as well as depth through his research. The result is an explosion of colors, shapes and multiple reveries that the relief highlights and increases the perception of emotions.
After this enriching experience of the abstract, drawing found its place in his creations. Nevertheless, there is always an element of the abstract in his work.
The artist gives another dimension to his characters which makes his acrylic creations rather lively, modern and full of energy.
Pascal Merlin participated in the CréART58 competition in 2014 and won two prizes for his work. He was also rewarded with the Nièvre Departmental Council prize by participating in the “La Ronde des Arts en Morvan” exhibition in 2017.
