Presentation

Renata Andrade began by studying the performing arts at the School of Actors (Indac) in São Paulo, Brazil, before directing her practice towards a more plastic dimension by joining the Faculty of Fine Arts (FPA) in São Paulo. She is currently doing a doctorate in plastic and visual arts at the University of Paris 8 where she is developing a thesis on cannibalism in contemporary art, the appropriation of myths and the strategy of emancipation. She began her artistic career with engraving, modeling and sculpture, but her dual curriculum quickly oriented her towards performance.

Since settling in France in 2016, however, her work has taken a more committed turn with works questioning gender, racism, sexuality and identity. She started in Brazil and has already exhibited in Argentina, China and currently in France, the country where she lives and develops her work.
