Michel Duclos
Biography
Michel Duclos was born in Toulouse in 1946.
Despite his interest in art, he did not immediately turn to an artistic career. Indeed, it was only after working for several years in a bank that he realized his dream of becoming a sculptor and shaping the earth.
From 2008, the quality of his works enabled him to make his first exhibition.
Michel Duclos rarely has to make sketches before creating works. Indeed, it is what he prefers to the earth, his medium of predilection. Clay allows him to quickly give shape to his ideas. Clay is his medium, it allows him to quickly materialize his many ideas and thoughts. Michel Duclos does not sketch before creating a work, he prefers the spontaneity of his ideas. Today he favors the use of a more modern material which is resin .
"I am curiously in perpetual quest for inspiration which prompts me to create, with a predilection for female bodies and animals".
He wants this creative exteriorization to be made of a single line, of a single curve stretched towards the most refined form possible. For the artist, it is necessary at all costs to avoid superfluous details. His works are without frills or asperities, Michel Duclos wants his work to be as smooth as possible.
No research on human or animal naturalism, no, Michel Duclos keeps only the essential characteristics of his ideas to attribute to them the curves inherent in his immoderate taste for round and smooth shapes. He has only one desire and only one desire, that the sculpture be "aesthetic" according to a vision which is specific to him through the expression of his sensitivity ".
The sculptor kept from his Cubist period only a few sharp edges and sharp angles to give his animal sculptures their destructive power. Thus the works sculpted by Michel Duclos present a double dimension, that of purely aesthetic form through their formal beauties and those more complex and mysterious of its cultural and artistic resonances.
Michel Duclos' sculpture transmits an almost frenetic energy of life, fixed by or in matter, motionless as if waiting to be freed from the inner movement that animates it.
