Biography
Li Lihong comes from the Jiangxi province, more precisely from the famous village Dezhen Jin where the royal porcelain of China has been produced for centuries.
He has learned the art of ceramics with master Qin Xiling. Unlike the work of his master, which is more traditional, Li lihong is inspired by the great Chinese ceramics, but with a contemporary touch.
Inspired by this millenary tradition, surrounded by the greatest ceramic artists in China, Li Lihong has always dreamed of becoming a ceramic artist, as his illustrious ancestors and his teacher, master Qin Xiling, while adding a modern touch to his works.
Absorbing all the influences of contemporary society, from advertising to the consumer culture (with the arrival in China of large firms such as Coca-Cola or McDonald's in the '80s ), he captures in his ceramic works the ancestral quality of porcelain and the confrontation between tradition and modernity and between the East and the West. His sculptures, most often golden or silver (and more rarely, white or colored) incorporate the blue and white aesthetic of traditional porcelain decoration.
Using experimental techniques, Li Lihong achieves this surprising mix of minimalist shapes, geometrical and curved lines, and goes beyond the limits of traditional ceramics. Through elements of daily life, he expressed as well, through his visual language, the changes in the Chinese society and its capacity to assimilate various cultures to which it is faced.
