Biography
Born in 1926 in Montmartre, Georges Laporte is a French painter, who died in 2000. He started his artistic career at the age of 20, after working as customs agent. He spent several years in Burgundy, in the villages of Chalon and Givry, where he painted numerous sights. Later on, he discovered Brittany and settled his workshop to Quiberon.
The landscapes he paints are of the artist's destinations, having as recurrent motif, the sea. Over the years, his style has progress, evolved, refinated, the layers of paint became thicker. The commentators compare Georges Laporte's gestural painting style to that of Nicolas de Stael. When his wife died in 1979, he multiplied his trips and his painting took a new direction. The painter renewed his painting and his colors. He likes to go particularly to Corsica and Japan.
The success of George Laporte's work has never faded. In 1958, he won the Bastian Lepage Prize at the Salon des Artistes Français. That same year, one of his pieces won the Prize of the City of Aix-en-Provence competing against 300 painters from all around France. His representations of the Island of Beauty were exhibited by the Bastia Museum in the exhibition "40 Great Artworks of Corsica" in 1990. Some of his exhibitions have gathered almost 80 0000 visitors.
