Artwork location: France

This work is a dense and meticulously organized collage, bringing together a multitude of objects from popular culture, sweets and small children's toys. It includes candies, stuffed animals, figurines of famous characters like Hello Kitty, colorful packaging and kitsch decorative elements, which testify to a profusion of memories and various references.

The arrangement is deliberately saturated and chaotic, evoking a frenetic accumulation of objects, but it also exudes a certain visual harmony thanks to the explosion of colors. The viewer is drawn to details that seem to tell individual stories: each object has its own symbolism, whether personal or shared collectively. The sweets, for example, symbolize the sweetness and ephemerality of childhood, while the figurines and playful elements refer to the world of mass consumption.

This work seems to be inspired by the pop art movement through its staging of objects from consumer culture, while also being part of an aesthetic close to that of the 90s and Japanese subcultures (with references to kawaii). There is a certain celebration of nostalgia, but also an implicit critique of overconsumption and materialistic attachment to objects without real intrinsic value.

Poetic analysis:

This work can be seen as a colourful and joyful “Pandora's box", where childhood, nostalgia and the frenetic accumulation of material memories are intertwined. Behind the playful and saturated façade of bright colours, there is a subtle reflection on the passage of time and how we cling to objects to capture fleeting moments.

Every detail, every tiny object or confection is frozen in a plastic eternity, offering a kind of immortality to these fleeting memories. It is a celebration of the trivial, the ephemeral, but also a mise en abyme of our obsession with preserving these fragments of the past. Through this visual saturation, the work questions our need to capture the essence of childhood and carefreeness in tangible objects, as if these artifacts could stop time.

Title :

“Memory in Pieces: Echoes of Childhood"

This title evokes both the fragmentation of memories and the accumulation of objects, while highlighting the intimate link between these objects and childhood. The word "echoes" suggests a resonance with the past, while "memory in pieces" translates this idea of partial memories, frozen in time, but recomposed in the work.

Presentation

Born in 1970, French artist David Cintract lives and works in Paris since 1988.

A painter, visual artist, sculptor and photographer at the same time, he created the "Free Pop" movement, which is more a state of mind than an artistic movement in the classic sense of the word. A child of Pop art, his works are a combination of Warhol's and Lichtenstein's work, David Cintract draws his inspiration from the news, movies or comics to make a better use of color. A big lover of knowledge, he encourages us to meditate about and criticize our lifestyles, with his pieces of an out of place and childish artistic world.

Gaiety of colors and patterns, vivacity and communicative joy, but also deep questions and symbols, such is the trademark of David Cintract, who refuses ease and creates discrete connections between very poetic forces and dark impulses. Using techniques as diverse as oil painting, photography, inclusion or digigraphie, he works on all sorts of supports (paintings, models, cars etc) several of his subjects are related to our postmodern society like how man faces uncontrolled and frivolous consumption, fantasies and adult erotic games as well as the loss of childhood in a society that does not believe in dreams anymore.

David Cintract exhibits his work around the world and thanks to his universal artistic language, he creates deep exchanges with aundiences from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures.
