The photographic series cORpuS, created by the French self-taught artist Louis Blanc, is a fascinating journey into the world of the representation of the human body. Born in 2011, after a series of personal experiments and reflections intensified by Blanc's switch to professional SLR equipment, cORpuS is distinguished by its ability to capture the complexity, beauty and sometimes strangeness of the human body. Each photograph in cORpuS is the result of a unique creative process, often starting with a vague idea, evolving through a series of trials and errors until reaching a form of expression that defies conventions. Blanc employs self-portrait techniques to stage his own body in contortions that push the limits of bodily expression, using a self-timer and a remote control to capture these intense moments of solitude and self-discovery.The neutral background of the images highlights the main subject: the body itself, distorted, stretched, sometimes put in disturbing poses, but always captivating. It is an exploration of the human form that invites reflection on the human condition, on the fragility, strength, beauty and anguish that can be expressed through the language of the body alone.Since its launch, cORpuS has generated great interest and has been exhibited in more than 40 international exhibitions, from France to Japan, New York, Italy and Russia. This series has not only received critical acclaim in publications such as La Provence and Réponses Photo, but has also been recognized in international media, including Monaco Culture and the Tribune de Genève.Through cORpuS, Louis Blanc does not just capture images; he provokes a dialogue with the viewer, a dialogue where the contours of the body speak of deep emotions, untold stories and the beauty in imperfection. This series is a testament to Blanc’s artistic vision, a vision that continues to evolve and captivate a global audience. This striking and deeply evocative artwork depicts, in a timeless manner, a nude man in a pose of despair and anguish. The man’s hands completely cover his face, his fingers tightly intertwined, expressing palpable distress. The meticulous attention to detail highlights the texture of the skin and the lines of the muscles, revealing a raw vulnerability and intense emotional weight. The monochrome palette of the image accentuates the contrasts of light and shadow, adding dramatic depth to the composition. The subtly textured background does not distract the viewer’s eye, but rather, it directs the attention to the central figure, amplifying the feeling of solitude and confinement. The tight angle of the framing creates an almost uncomfortable intimacy, forcing the viewer to confront the emotions laid bare. The nakedness of the man, far from being vulgar, is a bold statement on human fragility, highlighting the universal nature of suffering and anxiety. This work is a poignant exploration of the human condition, a meditation on inner pain and the quest for liberation. It challenges, it grips, it forces reflection. In its apparent simplicity, this photograph reveals an exceptional emotional and artistic depth.

Louis Blanc, DisSimuLaTiO

Presentation

Born in Saint-Etienne (Loire) in 1956, Louis Blanc has been living in the Toulouse region for fifteen years. After two photographic experiments (a brief one with Minolta silver reflex in the 80s and a longer one with a compact digital camera during 2000). In 2010, he realized that he didn't have much equipment, therefore he bought a (Canon EOS 550D) digital reflex and this is when he discovered photography!

Self-taught, he learned taking photos and post-treatment techniques, nevertheless he didn't hesitate to submit his work to criticism... this was always constructive.

His interest in photo quickly turned into a passion and by a mere coincidence these interests somehow became a reality: first approach being: architecture (to put it broadly) religious and historic buildings, urban landscapes. Second approach: work on the body image and body language. The Corpus series presented here is part of his second approach.

After several exhibitions in various bars and restaurants of Toulouse, Louis Blanc won the "Body Language" competition, organized by the magazine Réponses Photo and the Festival Européen de la Photo de Nu d'Arle, the first prize of this contest was a great exhibition, held at the Palais de l'Archevêché d'Arles, where the artist exhibited twelve photographs, in a large format from the Corpus series (2012).
