Artistic journey - Article published in "Univers des Arts"
It was at the age of 20 that Dominique-André Woisard discovered photography.
In 1983, he became assistant to Lucien Clergue, and produced the prints for the retrospective exhibition of his 30 years of photographs, at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris (1984).
Clergue will say of him: "... I was very satisfied with his collaboration, and I was also able to appreciate his human qualities, his punctuality, his discipline in the work, and his enthusiasm ..."
From this experience of the darkroom DAWoisard, still retains today, the pleasure of obtaining the quintessence of his images which he still prints.
In 1984, he presented his black and white work to Helmut Newton, his reference photographer, who: "… really likes what he does ..", and on his advice, moved to Paris the following year, where he works for the big modeling agencies (Glamor, Karin's, Elite).
It was in Bastia in 1994 that he exhibited his photographs for the first time. A strong symbol for this Corsican origin. Then he continued with his first Salon des Artistes Français where he won several medals including the Medal of Honor in 2005.
Her 3 favorite themes are the portrait, the landscape (especially Corsica, land of her ancestors), and of course the Woman in her most absolute femininity.
Jeanloup Sieff, discovering the photographs of DAWoisard, had he not found the right definition of his style by qualifying it as “retro-contemporary"? ... Neologism that the artist still claims today.
