Biography
Céline Parmentier is an artist who creates sculptures and prints on the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau. She has exhibited in France and abroad since 2012.
In his work which is linked to the living, the connections between species, it happens that his characters are similar to hybrids. Everything is then a pretext to have fun with gender and borders by creating encounters between bodies and necessary or hazardous metamorphoses.
The wood she works comes from her region rich in noble and fruit trees. Sculpting allows him to reveal the intimacy of wood, its accidents of growth, its knots, its fiber, its color, its beauty, its course of life. Time works and the work on this generous material gives it a second life.
The tools she uses are mostly manual which gives clean and clean cuts, thus allowing to cut to go to the essential line and the intensity of the shape. The material is removed methodically and slowly, the exciting challenge being to put an idea into volume and inscribe it in space.
The lines and colors of his engraving work are also born from a slow and incisive gesture to give shape to an expressive alchemy. Exploring the techniques linked to printmaking promotes the appearance of a little mythology hitherto hidden, freeing up the formatting of a graphic story. The mystery of the inks and the passage under the press are always a suspended moment, a time of surprise then of escape.
For Céline, sculpting and engraving are closely linked and have their full meaning in her artistic practice.
