Biography
Linström's first exhibition was organized in Stockholm in 1954. He tied up with Bogart, Marfaing, Maryan and Pouget, then with Asger Jorn who later on had an influence on him. The artist's style got refined in the late 50's. He used big buckets of pure colors, developed on his canvas which was stretched on a frame and placed on the ground; the artist began painting with full paste on canvas, almost sculpting the painting.
In 1962, he participated in the second exhibition of New Figuration held in Paris; two years later, Lindström exhibited with the Nord-Sud group. Over a period of several years, the painter created a gallery of portraits of writers and philosophers (Oscar Wilde, Gide, Claude Levi-Strauss, etc.). He painted landscapes inspired by his memories of the harsh nature of Northern Sweden, Scandinavian or Lappish mythology characters.
In the 80s, Lindström made small sculptures « Têtes » in paper mache, which he painted. In 1948, he discovered the engraved works of Chagall and the first "Papes" of Francis Bacon, From this period on, Lindstrom realized his first lithographs.
Bengt Lindström died in Sweden at the beginning of 2008.
