Ana Catalina Gubandru

Ana Catalina Gubandru (b. 1981) is a Romanian artist trained as a dancer and choreographer, holding a bachelor's degree in performing arts. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in performance, conceptual, and body art, drawing inspiration from these disciplines. Though painting began as a personal endeavor, it quickly evolved into a meaningful extension of her interest in movement and expression. Gubandru views painting as a dynamic, participatory act, where the movement of her body and hand interact with the canvas, creating a dialogue between color, form, and concept. For her, the canvas is a space of possibility, where ideas, emotions, and perspectives gather and unfold in unexpected ways. Since 2019, Gubandru has been exploring painting, and in 2021, she established her own studio where she experiments with a range of materials and mediums, including drawing and textiles. Through this interdisciplinary approach, she engages in a constant negotiation with the artwork, allowing each piece to evolve organically, shaped by the moment of creation.
